Food safety training and education
Aberdeenshire Council Environmental Health is a registered training centre of the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS).
The Environmental Health Training Team provides accredited training. The team also offers help and guidance on food safety, and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) training needs to businesses, voluntary groups and individuals throughout Aberdeenshire.

Elementary Food Hygiene
The course is provided via online learning, which allows candidates the time to break the training material into small bite size chunks, however it is recommended that a minimum of 6 hours is spent. Candidates get access to the online course, voice over, handouts, links and tutor support.
The course concludes with a video invigilated 30 question multiple choice exam. Successful completion will result in being awarded a certificate in REHIS Elementary Food Hygiene.

Intermediate Food Hygiene
This course is available over 3 or 4 days on a face-to-face basis or via an online platform. Both methods of delivery conclude with a 2.5-hour long written exam.
It involves a more in depth look at food hygiene and is a stepping stone from the REHIS Elementary Food Hygiene course. This level is suitable for supervisors, managers or anyone looking for a more detailed view of food hygiene.

Intermediate Certificate in HACCP for Food Manufacturing
This qualification is appropriate for anyone employed in a food manufacturing type business who needs to have a good understanding of HACCP at a supervisory level. However, although designed for food manufacturing, this course is also suitable for all food handlers at supervisory level, to raise awareness of food safety management systems based on HACCP principles.
The course is presented on a face-to-face basis over 3 days concluding with a 2-hour long written exam.

Advanced HACCP Course
This course is designed to provide knowledge and skills to design and implement food safety management systems based upon the Codex HACCP principles. Following the 4 days of face-to-face training, course participants are required to undertake a HACCP assignment. Successful completion of the assignment allows course participants to sit the 3-hour long course written examination.
