Ready communities
When an emergency happens the Emergency Services will always have to prioritise those in greatest need, especially where life is in danger. There will be times when you may be affected by an emergency, but your life is not in immediate danger. During this time, you need to know how to help yourself and those around you.
When communities plan and organise themselves to prepare for challenges and disruptions it can make a big difference.
Resilient communities:
- Use their existing skills, knowledge and resources to prepare and deal with emergencies
- Are aware of risks that may affect them and how they may be vulnerable to them
- Work together to complement the work of the local emergency responders
- Create stronger connections to one another
Communities can access resources to help them understand their risks they might face and how to prepare and plan for them:
