Homeless service and housing allocations during coronavirus
We ask customers who are facing immediate homelessness to contact us by phone. We have a generic phone number to contact during office hours 01467 530577.
Out of hours the service can be contacted on 03456 081206.
If you are threatened with eviction you should remain in your current accommodation and seek advice from your local housing options team or from Citizens Advice Scotland.
All reasonable available accommodation options should be considered as our ability to assist is limited. Alternative accommodation if needed may be anywhere within Aberdeenshire.
Changes to notice periods due to the coronavirus outbreak
The Scottish Government brought in new rules to extend the notice period needed before an action for eviction can be started.
In most cases there will be a longer gap between being served with notice and the date your landlord can apply for an eviction order.
The length of notice you are entitled to depends on when the notice was served and the grounds being used. Your landlord must wait until your notice has run out before they can ask the court or tribunal for a date to hear your case.
For example, if your landlord is evicting you for rent arrears they must now give you at least six months’ notice before they can apply to evict. For some grounds the notice periods may be shorter than this.
These new rules about notice periods only apply to cases where the notice was served on or after 7th April 2020 and will be in place until 30th September 2021.
A ban on eviction enforcement action currently in force for all Tier 3 and 4 areas is subject to ongoing review every 21 days and may be changed. Evictions should not currently take place unless the action is due to nuisance, anti-social behaviour or due to certain convictions.
The guidance is regularly changing. View guidance for private tenant eviction.
Allocation of mainstream properties and sheltered housing cottages are now continuing as normal.
Move-ins to sheltered housing blocks continue to be restricted and therefore depending on the restrictions that are in place, sign ups and your move in could be delayed.
Mutual exchanges will re-commence from 26th April 2021.
Applications to the waiting list can continue to be registered however they may take longer to be processed.
Correspondence with customers is by email. You are encouraged to ensure that contact details in your application are kept up to date.
We will continue to monitor the situation and will update the website to reflect any changes arising from changes to the Scottish Government guidance and restrictions that apply.
