Stonehaven Open Air Pool to reopen as Platinum Jubilee marked

Stonehaven Open Air Pool to reopen as the country marks Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee

Stonehaven Open Air Pool will be opened to the public on Thursday, June 2, this year – the first day of Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations and tying in with the public holiday.

The pool has been getting some tender loving care in recent weeks and months, as befits a landmark of nearly 90 years old.

Aberdeenshire Council’s teams and the friends of Stonehaven Open Air Pool adapting and changing valves and making a range of repairs, alongside the regular painting and decorating required to ensure she can deliver her unique service.

Final preparations are now well underway as staff prepare to welcome customers back to the facility.

Live Life Aberdeenshire service manager Tim Stephen said: “Preparing the pool for public use is a significant undertaking and we hope the public will bear with us as we take an extra couple of days to ensure it is ready – and warm enough – for public use.

“We’d like to thank the Friends of Stonehaven Open Air Pool and everybody else involved for their hard work over the last few weeks to prepare for the new season.”

Friends of Stonehaven Open Air Pool chairman Stephen Harris said: “The Friends of Stonehaven Open Air Pool are pleased and excited that the pool will be open for the jubilee.

“Both the Friends and Live Life Aberdeenshire have worked extremely hard to ensure the pool is ready for the new season, which can be challenging with a near 90-year-old facility.

“While we would have liked to have opened slightly earlier, credit should go to all parties for expediting the necessary work to get the pool ready for the extra special holiday weekend, which will feature some extra activities to celebrate and mark the platinum jubilee.”
