Aberdeenshire weather alert: November 19, 2022 - 10am
SEPA have a number of severe flood warnings in place for river communities in Aberdeenshire - SEVERE.
Please read those alerts if you live in the area and take steps to protect your properties - please note, the warning for the Ballater community is no longer in force.
The SEPA experts say the situation is already improving with water levels falling and the weather improving. They are reviewing flood warning messages this morning and will continue to monitor the situation throughout the day.
Important messages:
- Don’t ignore road closed signs
- Drive slowly through any standing water, or best to avoid it if you can
There is a rest centre in Ballater (V+A Halls) which will remain open until parts of the community are reconnected to power.
There will be a food van provided to the Ballater by SSEN to support communities who are without power. A number of households in the community remain without power.
The centres in Inverurie, Kemnay and Aboyne have now been stood down.
In some communities, there may be facilities being opened by local groups. Here are their details https://www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/communities-and-events/community-councils/community-council-contacts
If you know of vulnerable people in your area, please continue to pay them a visit.
If you are travelling, please drive carefully and to conditions, we’ve had reports of people ploughing through flooded roads and pushing water towards properties and into homes which is causing real concern.
Our Roads teams have been out clearing drains and that work is continuing. They have also been restocking sandbags as quickly as they can. Many thanks to colleagues from Moray Council who provided some sandbags in areas of highest demand. Locations can be found on our dedicated web page at www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/weather-alert/
Please stay informed - follow SEPA and our own channels for the latest updates, listen to the weather forecasts and news reports – stay safe.
