Aberdeenshire Council consultation on Fraserburgh school merger
A consultation is underway into the proposed merger of Fraserburgh North School and St Andrews School.
Following a meeting of the Education and Children’s Services committee on December 8, members agreed to the consultation which could see a new primary school next to the Fraserburgh Academy site.
The proposal for the merger follows extensive engagement regarding options for primary school provision in Fraserburgh.
It took place between 2014 and 2018 with feedback from the community indicating a preference to merge the two schools.
The new primary school would be set to open in autumn 2025 and would accommodate up to 450 pupils.
A new catchment area would be created for the new school with a rezoning exercise to consider the catchments of Fraserburgh North School, St Andrews School, Lochpots School and Fraserburgh South Park School.
This will ensure all pupils, including those from new housing developments, are located in the right school. This will be subject to an outcome of a separate consultation.
All Fraserburgh North and St Andrews pupils enrolled at the point of closure would continue their education within the new primary school and this will also apply to any siblings.
The consultation runs until February 24.
A public meeting will be held on February 1 at 6.30pm in the assembly hall at Fraserburgh Academy, Dennyduff Road, AB43 9NA.
