Cluny School celebrates 90 years of history and community
Cluny School marked a milestone birthday with a celebration bringing together current and former pupils, families, staff, and friends of the school.
For its 90th birthday, an event offering a trip down memory lane was held with opportunities for guests to reconnect with friends, share stories, and relive memories.
Headteacher of the Inverurie school Suzanne Gilmour said: “The celebration was incredibly well-attended and among the highlights was welcoming a former pupil born the year before the school opened, and who first attended Cluny in 1938.
“We were also delighted to welcome former pupil and legendary Dons footballer Neil Simpson who gave us his support for the school that played a role in his early years.
“It was lovely to see people taking the time to view the many photos and memorabilia from over the past 90 years and enjoy a cup of tea and slice of birthday cake.
“A huge thank you to the Local Studies Centre team who supported the event, providing us with historical archive information and to those in the community who provided school memorabilia and photos for our displays.
As part of the celebrations, drone photographs of the school and its pupils were taken to commemorate the occasion and will be included in a time capsule, along with 21st-century memorabilia, for future generations to discover.
The time capsule will be officially planted during an upcoming whole-school community ceremony.
