Nominations open for heroes changing lives: Inspiring Aberdeenshire Awards 2025

People are being urged to nominate ordinary folks making an extraordinary impact in their communities for the 2025 Inspiring Aberdeenshire Awards.

The council-led honours recognise individuals and groups who dedicate their time, energy, and enthusiasm to support local projects, causes, and communities.

Provost of Aberdeenshire Judy Whyte said: “This is your chance to nominate those unsung heroes and let them get the recognition they deserve.

“We want to celebrate their incredible contributions with a fantastic night at our award ceremony which gives us the opportunity to say how much we value and applaud what you do to make Aberdeenshire a better place.

"We’re asking people to think – is there someone you know who quietly gives their time to support a group or a cause? Someone whose efforts have made a real impact, but they never seek any recognition for what they do?

“These are the people we want to hear about - those who give their passion and their time, not for rewards, but because they care deeply about making a difference."

The awards span eight categories, highlighting the varied ways people and groups contribute to their communities:

Heart of Aberdeenshire Caring Award: Recognises individuals who have positively impacted vulnerable people through employment, family care, or volunteer efforts.

Inspirational Volunteer Award: Celebrates those who go the extra mile as volunteers, making a meaningful difference in their communities.

Local Hero Courage Award: Honours individuals who have demonstrated bravery and dedication in overcoming adversity.

Beautiful Aberdeenshire Environmental Award: Acknowledges those enhancing the region’s natural beauty through environmental initiatives.

Community Spirit Award: Recognises efforts to foster vibrant, inclusive, and spirited communities.

Cultural Award: Celebrates contributions to promoting local culture in Aberdeenshire.

Aberdeenshire’s Future Award: Highlights young leaders under 25 who inspire and motivate others in support of local causes.

Lifetime Achievement Award: Pays tribute to individuals whose years of dedication have made an outstanding and lasting contribution to their community.

Nominations close at 5pm on February 7.
