Meethill School marked its 50th anniversary in style with a series of celebratory events that brought together students, staff, alumni, and the wider community.

The celebrations included a special performance by students, delighting audiences with a nostalgic tribute to life in the 1970s, featuring musical renditions of some of the decade's most iconic hits.

Among the guests in attendance were Provost Judy Whyte, Lady Aberdeen, former staff members, and Roddy Duncan, Meethill's inaugural headteacher, who shared memories of the school’s opening in 1974.

Guests were welcomed by former pupils performing on the pipes and drums, setting the tone for a day filled with reminiscence and celebration.

In keeping with the community spirit, refreshments were provided by The Palace Hotel, which also played a significant role in Meethill’s original opening celebrations, hosting a special meal for guests nearly 50 years ago.

The Hame Bakery contributed a beautifully crafted birthday cake, while members of the Peterhead Community Council served tea, coffee, and sweet treats throughout the event.

The school also hosted an open evening, allowing past pupils, parents, and members of the community to take a trip down memory lane, exploring classrooms and enjoying a display of photos from the school's five decades of history.

Festivities continued with a lively birthday bash for current students, featuring a disco, face painting, bouncy castles, party activities, and a picnic lunch for the entire school.

To commemorate the milestone, Meethill School pupils created a special anniversary tea towel and designed three unique badges, which were gifted to all current staff and students.

Generous donations from the local community further enhanced the celebrations, making Meethill School’s 50th anniversary an unforgettable occasion for all involved.
