Lumphanan School has been rated ‘very good’ after a visit from inspectors from Education Scotland.
The visit included discussions with parents, carers, and children, and collaboration with the headteacher and school staff.
The inspection team highlighted several key strengths that contribute to its positive learning environment:
• Senior leaders and all staff work very well together to provide a warm, nurturing and inclusive ethos. Children are happy, successful and thriving.
• Teachers share best practice to ensure all children benefit from exciting and high quality learning and play. Children are motivated and engaged. They make the most of their learning experiences and support each other very well.
• Children have a strong understanding of their own learning and a genuine say in how to improve their school. They demonstrate strong leadership abilities and are developing important skills for learning, life and work.
• The standards of children’s attainment in literacy are consistently high. Children apply their skills and knowledge very successfully to a wide range of contexts across their school experiences.
An area for improvement - specifically through the introduction of new approaches and resources for teaching numeracy - was identified during the visit, which the school is already addressing.
The school is committed to building on these successes and will continue to provide an inclusive, high-quality learning environment for all pupils.
