GB Energy announcement welcomed by Council Leader
Aberdeenshire Council Leader Cllr Gillian Owen has welcomed the UK Government's announcement that Aberdeen is to be the home of the new state-owned energy company GB Energy.
Cllr Owen said: “I welcome the announcement about the UK Government ambitions for GB Energy. The north east of Scotland became an established energy world leader because of the expertise and specialisms we developed.
"I am confident that headquartering here sends the same message, that we are all focusing on the energy transition and the future.
“It’s a chance to remind everyone that we are very much open for business, and the inward investment in the city and shire that this will generate has enormous potential.
"We want to work with the government to make the most of this opportunity to maximise local businesses in order to accelerate the energy transition, safeguarding jobs and creating new opportunities.
“I am looking forward to working across the sector to develop the policy and relationships required to firmly establish the direction. Maybe with this announcement we can kickstart the next era of energy and a sustainable future in our corner of the country.”
