New playground joy for Kemnay school pupils
After an incredible fundraising campaign led by the Kemnay School Parent Group, pupils at the primary school are now enjoying an exciting new playground.
The £47,000 transformation at the Inverurie school comes complete with a scrambling assault course, an accessible roundabout, and a gravity bowl—all set on safe, rubber matting.
Work began at the Grove Road school in May, and just in time for the new term, the playground was unveiled in a special ceremony by Aberdeenshire Council’s Head of Education, Susan Smith.
Now children have a vibrant new space to play, explore, and let their imaginations run wild.
Headteacher David Williams said: “Many years ago, the pupils at our school identified the need for new playground equipment.
“Thanks to a series of fundraising events and the generous support of local businesses—DMD Packaging, Stewart Trailers, Malcolm Allan—and our community councillor, Gaenor Berkin, we were able to raise enough money to provide the children with the play structures they selected.
“The roundabout and gravity bowl are not only great fun but also help improve children's concentration, posture, and balance.
“Similarly, the scrambling assault course offers a fun experience while challenging their strength, flexibility, and coordination. We are incredibly proud of our new play-space and look forward to enjoying it for many years to come.”
Aberdeenshire Council’s Head of Education Susan Smith added: “It’s great to see the result of effective partnership working between the school and the local community. The support from parents, businesses and the community council has been integral to the success of this project.
“The children are delighted to see their ideas brought to life and are making the most of their new and improved playground facilities.”
