Peterhead nursery praised by Care Inspectorate

A Peterhead nursery has been praised across the board by the Care Inspectorate following a recent visit.

Inspectors were impressed with the "warm and nurturing care” and “ethos of continuous improvement” at the Mintlaw Primary School Nursery.

The report states: “Children's wellbeing was supported through nurturing interactions with staff. Children were given comfort, reassurance, praise and encouragement to meet their individual needs.”

The inspectors found that children benefitted from “strong relationships with a committed and enthusiastic staff team”.

The key points raised were:
• Children received warm and nurturing care which supported their wellbeing.
• Children were able to lead their own play and learning and were engaged in the activities.
• Children's safety was promoted as the children accessed safe and well-maintained environments and resources.
• There was an ethos of continuous improvement, with children and their parents having some opportunities to be involved in the development of the service.
• Children benefitted from strong relationships with a committed and enthusiastic staff team.

The report continued: "Staff were enthusiastic about their roles and worked well as a team. They treated each other kindly and with respect promoting a positive ethos for children and their families.

“Staff communicated well with each other if tasks took them away from children. This meant there was limited impact on children's interactions, and they were kept safe by adequate supervision.”

The report is broken down into four main categories and rated from one to six:
• How good is our care, play and learning? 4 - Good
• How good is our setting? 4 - Good
• How good is our leadership? 4 - Good
• How good is our staff team? 5 - Very Good
