Storm Éowyn update
UPDATED: 10AM 25.1.25
The amber wind warning has now moved away from Aberdeenshire, and weekend services are resuming as planned.
The Met Office has a yellow warning in place for snow and ice, and people who need to travel today are being asked to take care and drive to the conditions they find themselves in.
There were a number of power issues reported overnight. Please continue to report any outages to SSEN, using the 105 phone number or through their Power Track website. You can see the status of outages on Power Track. In many cases, engineers are on site and are hoping to restore power to those homes and businesses as soon as possible.
A huge thank you to those teams in any of our facilities working through the weekend to get us back to normal.
Roads
Our roads team are out clearing debris and removing blockages across the roads network. You can see roads closed due to storm damage here: Storm Eowyn January 2025 - Google My Maps
People can report fallen trees on the roads network by calling 03456 081205 (during office hours). Out of hours please call Police Scotland on 101.
Waste services
Household recycling centres are open as normal today.
Live Life Aberdeenshire
Should people be affected by power issues, they are reminded that they can use nearby Live Life Aberdeenshire facilities to use showers, as warm spaces and for charging. Those facilities are operating as normal today. We are also in contact with local resilience groups so they can offer support in our communities.
Health and social care
The vaccination clinics in Aberdeenshire are now also closed, and people are urged not to attend hospital without getting advice first.
Please don’t use the 999 service for anything other than genuine critical emergencies.
If you are waiting for a call back after a 999 call, please only call again if your condition significantly worsens or you no longer need our help.
If your condition isn't immediately life-threatening, call NHS24 on 111 or use the symptom checker and self-help guides on NHS Inform: https://www.nhsinform.scot/winter
NHS Grampian will be updating its social media threads pinned to the top of their Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram, LinkedIn, and Bluesky accounts throughout the day with any service updates due to Storm Éowyn.
Useful numbers and community resilience
- Power outages – via SSEN on 105
- Non-urgent medical issues – via NHS on 111

- Emergency social care - 03456 08 12 06
During an incident, households may need to be self-sufficient for 72 hours, potentially without electricity. Our Winter Leaflet and social posts throughout the year have previously been issued as a useful reminder for households to plan supplies for as long as possible. This could include canned and dried food, bottled water, medicines, torches, radio and batteries, a portable gas cooker (please use it safely because there is a co2 risk if used wrong), pet food, and warm clothes.
