Marriage, civil partnership, renewal of vows and baby naming ceremonies
There are few moments in a lifetime as memorable as the ceremony which celebrates the commitment of two people to each other or the arrival of a new family member. Every year our registrars preside over hundreds of ceremonies throughout Aberdeenshire at a huge range of locations and in many different formats.
We know that every single ceremony is unique and special, and our experienced registrars enjoy working with couples to ensure every ceremony is tailored to meet your wishes.
We can meet you over telephone or Microsoft Teams to answer any questions, and offer advice and guidance, on all aspects of your special day.
Fees
Our ceremony fees include the statutory £100 fee for submission of notices. For religious and belief (for example, humanist) ceremonies, this £100 fee is additional to the ceremony fee charged by them.

Choosing your venue
There is no restriction as to where a Registrar may preside over a ceremony in Aberdeenshire.
We regularly perform ceremonies in private venues such as hotels and castles. We are happy to liaise directly with venue managers to make sure arrangements are in order for the ceremony.
We also offer a range of ceremony spaces from dedicated ceremony suites to the Council Chambers. For more information on our available venues please contact us.
Some locations may be subject to a health and safety risk assessment if there is a concern for the safety of the registrar or those in attendance, but there is no charge for this.
Whatever your ideal ceremony location we will be honoured to stand before you on your special day.
Creating your ceremony
Every year we officiate hundreds of ceremonies across a wide range of formats, from very traditional to the very alternative and everything in between.
From the traditional Scottish marriage ceremony to a unique, bespoke baby naming ceremony we love working with people to find the right ceremony for them.
We will help you to design your ceremony, incorporating any unique features and enhancements that you may wish to add.
It is quite normal to include music, personalised vows and readings from family members. A range of traditional options can also be incorporated into your ceremony such as a:
- Candle ceremony
- Quaich ceremony
- Ring ceremony
- Rose ceremony
- Sand ceremony
If you have a specific idea that you would like to include in your ceremony please let us know.
We will not charge any additional fees for any enhancements or personal touches you add to your ceremony.
We will always make sure that ceremonies are appropriately tasteful, and always contain a sincere recognition of love and lifelong commitment.
