Peak time road closure scheme
Peak time road closures: school streets project
The Peak Time Road Closure Scheme, also called School Streets project, involves closing one or more roads outside a school to traffic during the morning drop-off and afternoon pick up time to all traffic, except vehicles with resident access permits or those on the exemption list.
The scheme aims to create a safer environment for children walking, wheeling and cycling to school by tackling congestion and improving air quality at the school gate.
Signage is erected on the streets that will be closed to indicate the location of the road closure. The signs will flash when the street closure is in operation, similar to the part time 20 signs that are in place in some areas. When lights do not flash, the street is open to all traffic as normal.
It is a driving offence to enter the street when the lights are in operation if your vehicle is not permitted and will be enforced by Police Scotland. This is a driving ban and not a parking ban.
