Peak time road closure scheme

Peak time road closures

The Peak Time Road Closure Scheme involves closing one or more roads outside a school to traffic during the morning drop-off and afternoon pick up time to all traffic, except vehicles with resident access permits or those on the exemption list.

This is to help tackle congestion at the school gate, improve air quality and make a safer environment for children to walk and cycle to school.

Signage will be erected on the streets that will be closed to indicate the location of the road closure. The signs will flash when the street closure is in operation, similar to the part time 20 signs that are in place in some areas. When lights do not flash, the street is open to all traffic as normal.

It will be a driving offense to enter the street when the lights are in operation if your vehicle is not permitted and will be enforced by Police Scotland. This is a driving ban and not a parking ban.

Locations

The trial site for the scheme is Fraserburgh South Park School and it will start in early 2023.

The following roads will be closed between 8:15am to 9:15am and 2.30pm to 3.30pm during term time Monday to Friday:

  • 38 - 68 Philorth Avenue (from Provost Milne Drive to Mormond Avenue)
  • St Modans Place

School guide

An information guide has been created for families who attend Fraserburgh South Park School to help give advice on the scheme and how best to travel to the school (PDF 2.48MB). This has been created with help from the school and Parent Council Group.
