Services for older people
We provide a range of care and support services for older people in the community. These services are coordinated by the Aberdeenshire Health and Social Care Partnership. We aim to support people to be independent and well for as long as possible. Most older people lead active independent lives, but you may feel you need more support if you are:
- becoming frail
- affected by a major illness or accident
- physically disabled
- living with dementia; memory impairment or mental health issues
- losing your sight or hearing
If you feel you need support call 03456 08 12 06. We will take some details and an Occupational Therapist or Care Manager will contact you. They will discuss your circumstances and arrange to meet you to assess your needs, if appropriate. Whether an assessment or support is provided is based on our eligibility criteria.
At the assessment, the worker will discuss with you what you are finding difficult. They will also consider your strengths and what is important to you. Depending on your circumstances, you may only need short-term support or a piece of equipment, or ongoing support to stay well and keep you safe.
We can offer a range of care and support services:
- Care and support at home, including free personal care and community meals service
- Community alarm scheme and telecare
- Falls prevention
- Day centres
- Occupational therapy service offering equipment or adaptations for your home
- Very Sheltered Housing
- Long term care in a care home
- Support for people living with dementia
If you need ongoing care and support we will discuss Self-directed support (SDS) with you. SDS gives you control over an individual budget and lets you choose how it is used to arrange your support.
You may be asked to contribute towards your care and support. Some support, such as social support, may be chargeable. Our charging policy gives more information. You won't be asked to contribute more than it costs to provide the care and support you receive.
