Justice Social Work Service
Justice Service
Our Justice Service works with people aged over 16 years of age who are involved in the criminal justice system across Aberdeenshire. Support is available at all stages of a person's involvement in the justice system.
We provide support to people who are appearing in court. The service provided depends on what the court decides the person must do.
We work with organisations such as NHS Grampian, Police Scotland, the Scottish Prison Service and Third Sector providers including charity organisations such as Apex Scotland, Aberdeen Foyer and Creative Change Collective to give as much of the right support to the person as possible.
We also work with other organisations, such as Police Scotland, to assess and manage risk if this is needed to keep both individuals and communities safe, and to help stop more re-offending.
When a person is being released from prison, we can provide help or support. This can be on a voluntary basis where the person asks for the support. It can also be compulsory depending on the type of offence or length of service.
We may involve other services to provide help if needed, such as:
- housing support
- health and social care
- mental health services
- drug and alcohol services
We aim to:
- reduce re-offending
- increase social inclusion
- enhance community safety and public protection
