Unpaid work by offenders

Unpaid work - previously referred to as Community Service - is an option available to the courts as part of a Community Payback Order. Offenders carry out work across Aberdeenshire in either small groups or in individual placements. The work is supervised either directly by the service or by another party in agreement with the service.

In 2011 / 12 offenders carried out over 36,000 hours unpaid work directly of benefit to local communities.

We are always very willing to discuss potential projects where we may be able to provide help. The criteria for projects is that they must:

  • benefit the local community
  • not take paid work away from others or generate financial profit
  • be meaningful, constructive and have the potential for offenders to learn new skills
