Ellon and District Ward By-Election 2020

A local government by-election will take place on Thursday, 15th October 2020 to elect a councillor to the Ellon and District Ward:

The nominations deadline to stand in this election has passed at 4pm on Monday 14th September 2020.

Pre-nomination briefing

Due to measures taken to control coronavirus, a pre-nomination briefing session for candidates (pdf 282KB) and election agents will not be taking place, however the presentation is available to prospective candidates to download.

Information for voters

Poll cards are dispatched on Monday 14th September 2020 and will be delivered by Royal Mail.

Measures are in place to ensure that as far as possible voters can cast their vote without concern about their exposure to infection. We are applying the standard measures that voters will be used to in lots of other areas of life; for example social distancing, opportunities to sanitise hands, a one way flow through buildings, PPE where appropriate and face covering encouraged. These provisions will be in place in polling places to support your safety.

Postal votes

Should voters be unable to cast their vote in person at a polling place, postal voting is available as an option. Anyone wishing to submit a postal vote needs to apply by 5pm on Wednesday, 30 September. Postal Packs shall be dispatched to Royal Mail on Monday, 5 October.

Proxy votes

Applications for a proxy vote need to be received by 5pm on Wednesday, 7th October 2020; although you may be able to apply for an emergency proxy ballot up to 5pm on Thursday, 15th October 2020 in special circumstances, for example if you are unable to vote in person because you are following Scottish Government advice or the advice of a registered medical practitioner in relation to coronavirus.
